A Dentist for the Whole Family
Regular dental exams not only help to decrease a patient’s risk of oral diseases, gum disease and cavities as example, but they may also help to diagnose other, sometimes serious, medical conditions.
Dentists are able to assess a patient’s overall oral health and may recognize symptoms of serious diseases, including diabetes, cancer, and eating disorders, which often manifest as signs and symptoms inside of the mouth.
Dr. Shore recommends patients schedule visits and cleanings with her hygienist a minimum of twice a year. Some patients may require more frequent visits.
Our Cooper City Dentist’s office offers:
- Dental Exams, X-Rays and Teeth Cleaning are the first step to a healthy smile.
- Dental Crowns and Bridges Porcelain or ceramic crowns can be matched to the color of your natural teeth. Other materials include gold and metal alloys, acrylic and ceramic. These alloys are generally stronger than porcelain and may be recommended for back teeth. Porcelain bonded to a metal shell is often used because it is both strong and attractive. Bridges are commonly used to replace one or more missing teeth, spanning the space where teeth are missing.
- Dental Implant Supported Restorations provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth.
- Mouthguards for TMD and Bruxism. Bruxism is an involuntary, unconscious activity during which patients clench, grind or tap their teeth. We sometimes clench or grind our teeth during the day, but mostly we do it while sleeping. If left untreated and unchecked for a long time, bruxism can cause a range of problems. It can cause pain in the jaw, earache or headache, and it can seriously damage teeth. It can also lead to TMJ, a painful condition caused by the inflammation of the joint that attaches the lower jaw to the skull. Dr. Shore fits patients with custom mouthguards to ease the condition and prevent further damage.
- Oral cancer screenings should be part of your routine annual visit with Dr. Shore. Oral cancer can strike in the mouth and throat with most of these cancers beginning in the flat cells—squamous cells—that cover the surfaces of the mouth, tongue and lips. Some of the risk factors for oral cancer include tobacco use, heavy alcohol consumption, infection with human papillomavirus, sun exposure, diet, and personal history of oral cancer. Symptoms to watch for include patches inside the mouth or on the lips, a sore on the mouth or lips that won’t heal, bleeding in the mouth, loose teeth, pain or difficulty swallowing, lump in the neck, numbness of lower lip and chin, difficulty wearing dentures and a persistent earache.
